Dr. Susan N. Whitmore, DVM

Susan N.  Whitmore

Dr. Whitmore moved to Colorado when she was 6 years old. “I may have been born in Ohio, but my heart belongs to Colorado.” After having received her BS and DVM from Colorado State University, she worked at several veterinary clinics and after-hours emergency hospitals and then started Companion Animal Clinic in 1981. Her awards include Phi Beta Kappa and 2001 Colorado Veterinarian of the Year. Dr. Whitmore is married to her best friend, Don, and has one daughter. Four-legged children include a fun-loving Miniature Schnauzer, named Stitch, plus a sweet grey DSH kitty, named Ginger. Dr. Whitmore’s hobbies are skiing, Zumba, singing 4-part a cappella harmony, dancing, plus any family activity.

Sarah , Client Care Specialist


Sarah is a Colorado native and our most welcoming front office team member. She enjoys learning about animal behavior and medicine and loves helping our 4-legged family members and their families. She has two wonderful boys, plus a large extended family. In her free time Sarah likes camping, fishing, four-wheeling, hiking and anything else outdoors. Come let her infectious smile and laugh greet you.

Kayla , CVT (Certified Veterinary Technician)


Born and raised in Colorado Springs, Colorado, Kayla graduated from the Colorado Academy of Veterinary Technology with an Associates degree in Applied Veterinary Science. Kayla’s 4-legged family consists of 3 cats, Socks, Snickers, and Lilly plus 1 friendly lab, Carson. In her spare time she enjoys hiking and spending time with her family and friends. Kayla’s long-term goal is to become a VTS (Veterinary Technician Specialist) in Animal Dentistry.

Melissa , CVT (Certified Veterinary Technician)


Melissa was born in Pueblo, Colorado. She has degrees in Natural Resources, Outdoor Leadership, and Applied Veterinary Science. After working for five years in Colorado State Parks, Melissa changed careers and has now been a Veterinary Technician for over two years. She has one child and four furry family members.. Melissa enjoys camping, hiking, four-wheeling, boating and fishing. Some day Melissa aspires to own a horse rescue ranch.

Karen , Bookkeeper


Karen was born and raised in Minnesota where she attended the Medical Institute of Minnesota Veterinary Technician Program. Since 1988 she has worked at Companion Animal Clinic off and on while raising her two boys with her husband in Ellicott, Colorado. She has worked in the front office, in the back as a Certified Veterinary Technician, and as a Bookkeeper. The rest of her family consists of one happy Labrador, three sweet cats, two fun chickens and a turtle. Her hobbies include watching science fiction and reading novels.

Dublin , Purr-fect Ambassador


Dublin joined Companion Animal Clinic in 2012 as our four-legged feline ambassador. It was impossible for him to replace our previous ambassador, Miss Kitty, but he soon earned his own spot in our hearts and hopefully yours. He loves to greet both our feline and our canine patients and their families.
